First Steps: Licensure & Visa

What documents do I need to work in America?
Assignment America will help you complete all the paperwork and obtain all the documents you'll need to work as a registered nurse in the United States, which include a U.S. RN license and a Permanent Residency Visa.

What is the NCLEX-RN?
The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is a standardized, computerized exam, currently administered United States and its territories as well as at many international sites worldwide,, that tests a nurse's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Test results are used by the U.S. boards of nursing when making licensure decisions. Anyone who wishes to practice as a registered nurse in the United States is required to take and pass the NCLEX-RN in order to become licensed. Assignment America provides a study program to help you prepare for this important exam.

How does the visa process work? Can I bring my family?
Assignment America will sponsor you, your spouse and children under 21 for a Permanent Residency Visa (green card) after you pass the NCLEX-RN.

Yes, both you and Assignment America are making a investment in your future; therefore, we require a signed contract to confirm your understanding of your commitment, its terms and conditions.

Expectations of U.S. nurses are different from my home country's. How will I learn what's required of me?
Assignment America's Clinical Development Program will introduce you to the U.S. health care system and help you prepare for the differences in nursing you're likely to experience. This is an online program that you will complete during the immigration process and prior to your arrival in the U.S.

Do you offer a retirement plan?

Assignment America's 401(k) plan allows you to set aside a portion of your pay, before taxes. Once you become eligible, we'll even match a percentage of your contribution!

I'd like to continue my education. What options do you offer?

Our corporate university, Cross Country University (CCU), is nationally accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education (CNE) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). ANCC credit is the gold standard for CNE and accepted by all US state and territorial licensing bodies. You may, at your convenience, complete any of the more than 140 hours of free continuing education hours at the CCU learning site.

Cross Country University also provides clinical specialty testing in more than 100 disciplines and subspecialties. Completion of one of these nationally normed exams provides a virtually universally accepted validation of your credential for knowledge competence in that field. Once you have completed a specialty exam, nearly all Cross Country facility clients honor that initial credential so long as you are in continuous practice.

When the Program Ends

What happens when I complete my employment term?

The end of your Assignment America contract may be just the beginning of your adventure! As part of Cross Country Healthcare, Inc., - one of the nation's largest healthcare staffing companies - we're uniquely able to offer multiple career options through our affiliated companies. You may choose to remain in America and see even more of the country as a travel nurse, earning top pay and bonuses in challenging assignments. Perhaps you prefer the flexibility of per-diem work, or desire the stability of permanent placement. You may also decide to extend your contract with Assignment America, or return to one of the facilities in which you worked as a direct-hire permanent employee.
